The Northern Territory
The Northern Territory is located in the Top End of Australia, a vast wilderness area which encapsulates Australia’s rugged and spectacular landscapes. It remains Australia’s last wild frontier.
The Northern Territory boasts a rich diversity of wildlife, including iconic species like saltwater crocodiles, monitor lizards, and a variety of pythons. It is also home to some of the last remaining aboriginal settlements which still practice traditional hunting methods as a form of sustenance.
Frequent wildlife encounters include wallabies, dingoes, feral boars, and water buffalo, making it a premier destination for wildlife tours in Australia. The floodplains allow for a spectacular view of waterbird species including Jabiru, Brolga, Magpie Geese, Whistling Ducks and Herons.
Finniss River Station
Finniss River Station is where the outback meets the ocean, and where Australian Wild Tours hosts its adventures.
The Finniss River is well known as a popular fishing spot to catch the highly prized barramundi, but is also home to a diverse range of wildlife species which can be observed all year round.
Finniss River Station is located approx 130km, and roughly 1.5 hours, from Darwin CBD heading south-west towards Litchfield National Park.
The Bush Camp
Situated in a secret, secluded spot on the western frontier of Finniss River Station, our bush camp offers an authentic outback experience surrounded by coastal rainforest and native wildlife.
The elemental camp design features a natural rock shower fed by a natural spring and a rustic tank plunge pool for relaxing after a day of exploration. Outback lanterns light the paths at night to allow for easy visibility. An Outback toilet is also situated on the camp.
For those staying overnight at the camp, the XTM double swags and a comfortable mat double wanderer insert are provided.
All-around protected housing ensures a peaceful sleep under the stars, ideal for those seeking a raw and authentic Northern Territory adventure.
